Our first season in the topflight has had a bit of everything — the highs, the blips, the magic, the noise.
This past week captured it all. We stood tall in Ibadan, holding Shooting Stars in the South West Derby. Then, four days later, we delivered a performance to remember with a 6–0 win over Katsina United under the lights at the Arena in a MD 31 rescheduled game. A statement win that took us to 49 points.
Now, it’s Niger Tornadoes at home on Matchday 33, today.
There’s no scoreboard obsession. Reaching 50 points would be a nice moment, yes, but the real goal is clear, keep the momentum, finish strong, and show we belong here.
Last week gave us joy, but we won’t get carried away. There’s still work to be done, and the focus is firmly on what comes next.
When We Faced in Minna
The trip to Minna in November was part of a stretch that really defined us. Six games unbeaten from November into December. That goalless draw with Niger Tornadoes was the only one in that run, but it showed something important that we weren’t just here to make up the numbers.
It was a tough game, one that really tested us. But we held firm, kept our shape, and picked up a point when we needed it most.
But we’re not looking back.
We want more now, much more than just a point. And we’re ready to push even harder to get it.
Team News
AbdulMalik Olatunji, who’s been out for a while, has returned to his parent club, Imperial FC, as he gears up for a move to Europe.
Unfortunately, Freedom Marvelous, Ganiyu Adio, and Toyeeb Ajeyigbe are still sidelined with injuries.
left back, Harrison Austin is unavailable for the game as he faces a one game suspension for 5 accumulated yellow cards.
Chineme Chinonso is facing a late fitness test, while Oladimeji Dada, who scored in our rescheduled MD 31 win against Katsina United, is also being assessed after picking up a knock in that game.
Why We Are Confident Ahead of this One
We never get ahead of ourselves or underestimate anyone, but ahead of the Niger Tornadoes’ visit, there’s a lot to be positive about.
In our last six games, we’ve secured three wins, two draws, and one loss, a result in Port Harcourt that’s easy to put behind us. At home in 2025, we’ve been strong, five wins and one draw, with the only points dropped coming in a 2-2 draw against Enyimba. We’ve scored 18 goals in those games and conceded just five.
While the stats look good, we know better than to get caught up in that. The focus remains the same. Do the job, which is to get the win.
What the Opposition Offers
While Niger Tornadoes currently sit 12th in the table with just two wins in their last six, their away record is something we can’t ignore. They’re the fifth-best team on the road this season, just behind the likes of Rivers United, Remo Stars, Rangers, and Enyimba. That shows they know how to make things difficult for teams away from home, and we can’t afford to let them do that against us.
